National Lifestyle Villages, our major partner for the 2007 Australian Masters Squash Championship held their Village Open Day at their Mandurah WA facility last Saturday with estimated 1500-2000 visitors. A contingent of WA Masters players from around WA supported the day with exhibition squash and coaching clinics held on the Village squash court.

National Lifestyle Village’s most recent development is their $15 million Vivalife acquisition in Tamworth NSW; their founder and sole share holder, John Wood, is set to play in our 2007 Championships; look out for him and Dallas Trowbridge to find out more about the NLV lifestyle. Update 10/08/2007

“The Australian Masters Squash Championships are now only four weeks away and entries have closed. We have over 500 entries which makes it the biggest masters’ championships for a number of years and the biggest squash event in Australia this year. WA has about 150entries and 40 teams playing over the two weeks.

We are very lucky to have National Lifestyle Villages as our major sponsor and also support from Healthways and Dunlop as well as many smaller sponsors.

The venue at Mirrabooka is among the best in the country and will enable us to run all the individual events during the first week at one venue. This will create great atmosphere and enable players and spectators to pick and choose the games they want to watch and let them support their team mates and friends.

The Teams event, depending on the final numbers may need to use some overflow courts but these will be kept to the minimum so as much as possible everyone is together at the main venue.

The functions are going to be well attended. The team’s dinner dance at Observation City on Friday 14 September has nearly reached the maximum number. There are still plenty of room for the Individual dinner dance on Saturday 8 September at the Hyatt and some tickets left for the Wrinkly’s on Tuesday 11 September at the Italian Club.

The Skins event on the Saturday afternoon between the individual and teams events is a novelty event where everyone regardless of playing strength has a chance to win. This is being held at Terrace Squash and has so far attracted nearly 80 entries.

The organising committee is starting to get very excited about all the hard work coming to fruition and we look forward to seeing everyone having a great time on and off the court.
